The choir is excited to share its first recording, hopefully the first of many!
Nos Da is a beautiful, nostalgic lullaby written by Newport composer, Mai Jones, and Welsh poet, Idwall Jones, in the 1940s. Familiar local scenes from the day are revisited in the twilight, a concept that has inspired many children's bedtime stories. The lyrics have a gentle sway as they bid a fond goodnight to the listener, while the harmonies evoke post-wartime Britain. Given Mai's successful radio career, it is easy to imaging it being played on late radio broadcasts at the time, and it was the perfect way to end our evening of music alongside Byrdsong, in our concert on 18th October.
The recording is available for download on apps such as Spotify and Apple Music, and as far as we are aware, it is the only available recording of the original composition. |
